Marilyn Monroe once said ‘diamonds are a girls best friend.’ Although I love a good sparkler, I think a great fur coat comes in a close second.
Fortunately for those of us who can’t afford the real thing, or who choose not to purchase real fur for personal reasons, there are tons of great faux fur options available and many ways to wear it.
Here are some of my favorite pieces for this fall:
So embrace the cold weather and wrap yourself up in some fur this fall (faux or real.) I know I will be!
Like most little girls I was enamored with the ballet and loved all the wonderful costumes that the dancers got to wear. As an adult, my obsession with tulle tutu-esque skirts has yet to disappear and I believe they are a necessary edition to every woman’s wardrobe. Wearing a tulle skirt often goes two ways : you can either look like you’re playing dress up and like a walking cupcake or you can look sophisticated and chic. For me there has always been something wonderfully romantic and elegant about a great tulle skirt and when paired with the right top and accessories the end result is nothing short of fabulous.
Some of my favorite ways of wearing tulle can be seen below:
Blair Eadie from the blog Atlantic-Pacific sporting a tulle skirt from Anthropogie
Sara from the blog Collage Vintage wearing a tulle skirt from ASOS
Jacey from the blog Damsel in Dior wearing a tulle skirt from Anthropologie
Hopefully this post will bring out the inner ballerina in you. I know I want to and can’t wait to re-create one of these looks soon.
Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons and for me marks a time of renewal and change. Almost all good things happen in fall : The leaves begin to change colour, school is back in session, the September issue of Vogue is released, and homes begin to smell like apple and pumpkin pie and fall fashion is well, absolutely fabulous.
Since I will be back in school in September I am coveting things that I find will fit my collegiate lifestyle and that will still allow me to look cute, polished, feminine, and put together.
Here are some of the items on my wish list:
1. A great coat or jacket (or perhaps two)
I am a sucker for beautiful outerwear. Often I find an amazing coat really pulls an outfit together and is worth investing in. Two of my favorites so far this season are the Simone Coat from Club Monaco in a luscious shade of pale pink and the very practical and stylish Kasson Parka in Tan from Penfield c/o Madewell (I adore the hint of plaid that peaks through.)
2. Great Leather Boots
I have a slight obsession with black over-the-knee boots and am in love with this pair from Stuart Weitzman.
3. A great bag
Along with outerwear and shoes I will often invest in a great handbag. I thought that this Cambridge Classic Satchel in Oxblood with my initials embossed into it would be the perfect back to school bag. It is the perfect mix of classic preppy cool.
4. A new watch
I already have a watch from Michael Kors but would like something more sophisticated that can be dressed up or down. With it’s red suede strap, white face, and gold plating this watch from Larsson Jennings is sure to do the trick.
5. Macbook Pro
I have had my Macbook Pro for 6 years now and it has survived even the most severe beatings. It still works but has become relatively slow and I feel like I need a more updated version for school.
Hopefully along with being back in School this September, some (or maybe if I’m lucky all) of these items will come into my possession this fall.
This beauty finally arrived in the mail today and I couldn’t be more excited!
I have a slight obsession with lucite and couldn’t resist purchasing this after stumbling upon Nike Adinata’s website (www.mnologie.com.) Not only are her pieces stunning and one of a kind but they are also affordable (making this purchase a win-win in my opinion.) Of course, it doesn’t hurt that everyone will know that this baby is mine since it has my name engraved on it.
What can I say I love a good mail day.
N.B. If you decide to order one of Nike’s creations for yourself be prepared to wait awhile for it to arrive in the mail (especially if you want it personalized like I did.) This is because Nike custom makes all of the pieces herself, but like any good thing it was definitely worth the wait.
Like most women, I often look in my closet and feel like I have absolutely nothing to wear. I often imagine what I could look like if i had unlimited amounts of money and access to all the amazing clothes and accessories that type of wealth could buy.
However, at times like these I try to remind myself that great style can happen on any budget and that putting in a little effort is often the first step to looking put together and polished. I know I’m not the only person who feels better about themselves and life in general when they look cute and are able to put their best foot forward.
Seeing as I’ll be back in school in September and surrounded by some very fashion-forward people, I thought I better get in gear and start looking cute pronto! When it comes to looking amazing everyday, there is no better source of inspiration than blogger Julia Engel/Berolzheimer of Gal Meets Glam.
Julia is one of those girls that would be easy to hate if she wasn’t so fabulous. Beautiful and always impecabbly put together she manages to look good no matter what she’s doing. See pictures from her blog below to see what I’m talking about.
Although I can’t look like Julia (or anyone else for that matter), I am determined to spend more time on my beauty and style routine and emulate her feminine, pretty, and polished style.
Cheers to looking and feeling beautiful and starting the school year off in style,
“You can never be overdressed or over educated.”

I first started this blog to document a very transitional time in my life. Over the course of the past year, I’ve learned a lot about myself, my goals, and what I’d ideally like to be doing. Although it is always scary to live life for yourself instead of others and actively pursue your dreams, my experiences this year have definitely taught me that it’s worthwhile. That’s not to say that taking the road less traveled hasn’t come with it’s fair share of anxiety or challenges. In fact, I often felt discouraged and wanted to give up. However, I am glad to say that I didn’t and that I think my perseverance and hard work are finally starting to pay off. If you can remember, one of the things I wanted to do most (and still do) when I first started this blog in May was to be back in school. However, I often worried that I might not be accepted and that my life would remain forever in hiatus. Well, I am VERY happy to report that I was accepted into a postgraduate program in retail management and will be going back to school this fall. I guess that old adage is true – things often have a way of turning out as long as you are willing to work hard and never give up on your goals (and maintain a positive attitude.) After all luck is often disguised as hard work, and if you are willing to make your own opportunities and seize the ones that come your way – great things can and do happen! Of course it doesn’t hurt to have lots of loving and supportive people in your corner and I am blessed to have that in spades.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to be back in school and how lucky I feel to have had this opportunity come my way. Being back in school really is a dream come true for me and I plan to make the most of it and work even harder towards achieving my dreams and goals.
I am really thanking my lucky stars right now and cannot wait to be a student again this September. Hopefully this post will inspire all of you to keep shooting for the moon. I know I will be. After all as Oscar Wilde once famously said, ” Shoot for the moon, if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”
Here’s to a glittery future,
I’m not sure if it’s due to the slightly chillier summer weather here, my love of fall clothes, or my recent obsession with 90’s style (see my last post on crop tops) but I have grown enamored with over the knee socks. Not only are they stylish, cute, and dare I say it – a little bit sexy, but they can also help to keep you warm all year round. So how does one wear over the knee socks without looking like a school girl or a tart? I am still in the process of testing my socks out with different outfits but here are some things I’ve learned along the way:
1) Wear them with confidence. This is a general style rule but I find it particularly important when wearing over the knee socks. I consider over the knee socks to be a fairly bold statement piece, and as a result, it’s important to own them.
2) Opt for flat shoes instead of heels. Heels can take the look from cute and casual to juvenile and lady of the night. Try a pair of oxfords, penny loafers, brogues, or ankle boots instead (with ankle boots a bit of a platform or a chunkier heel can work as well.) Tall boots also look great if they have a flat heel and just a bit of your sock is peeking out over top.
3) Sport a more conservative top. Since you want to show off your socks, over the knee socks are normally paired with shorter skirts and dresses. As a result, I try not to wear mine with anything too tight or revealing.
4) Don’t wear them too high up on your thigh. Just a bit above the knee will do the trick.
5) Layer, Layer, Layer. Don’t be afraid to layer your socks over a pair of sheer tights. This is actually one of my favorite ways to wear them and can help to create visual interest in an outfit.
6) Less is more. As mentioned above I consider over the knee socks to be somewhat of a statement piece. As a result, if I am wearing patterned clothing I tend to pick a more neutral sock. However, if you’re wearing neutral clothes it can be fun to pick a more adventurous pair of socks (think argyle and other fun patterns in different colors.)
I created a look on Polyvore above to demonstrate one way to wear over the knee socks and the exact items can be found below. What do you guys think of this trend? Will you be wearing over the knee socks anytime soon or sticking to basic tights and ankle socks? Let me know in the comments below.
